Pacific Crest Engineering has been providing geotechnical studies and testing services in support of Mizkan America’s long term facility expansion plans at their vinegar processing plant in Watsonville. The facility expansion includes several equipment pads and tank sites as well as site grading improvements. The services provided by PCEI have included site-specific geotechnical investigations, SWPPP monitoring services, construction phase geotechnical testing and consultation, earthwork observation and testing, laboratory testing and special inspection.
Pacific Crest Engineering performed a design level geotechnical investigation for a new building with an underground parking garage in downtown Santa Cruz. The first floor included retail\office space, with four levels of residential living space above. The project included the advancement of three soil test borings and one Cone Penetrometer Test (CPT) sounding. The study addressed highly liquefiable soils, ground surface settlement due to liquefaction, and a high groundwater table. Recommendations included a structural mat for the building to mitigate the liquefaction induced settlement and specialty shoring and de-watering for the underground garage due to a high ground water table. Pacific Crest Engineering also provided earthwork observation and testing services durring construction.
Pacific Crest Engineering has been providing design level geotechnical engineering services for this property since 2001. A design level geotechnical investigation for the current development scheme, which includes a six-story hotel and below ground parking level. Our investigation included advancing twelve (12) cone penetrometer soundings to supplement our 2001 site investigation, quantitative evaluation of seismically-induced settlement, development of lateral earth pressures and foundation design criteria, development of general earthwork, materials and utility trench recommendations, deterministic evaluation of seismic design parameters in accordance with the California Building Code and discussion of pertinent seismic and geotechnical hazards.
Pacific Crest Engineering performed a geotechnical study for the construction of a new produce cooler, an equipment shop, an irrigation shop, a two story office building, a receiving office, new paved driveway and parking areas, and bioswales and associated storm water control systems. During the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, the soil at the project site had liquefied and spread laterally. The services provided by PCEI during this project were comprised of a site-specific geotechnical investigation that included quantitative liquefaction and seepage analyses as well as geotechnical recommendations that considered future site liquefaction. During construction we provided SWPPP monitoring services, construction phase geotechnical testing and consultation, earthwork observation and testing, laboratory testing and special inspection.
PCEI completed geotechnical design, consultation, testing and special inspections services associated with the new Tractor Supply Company development located in Watsonville. The project included the construction of a new 19,100 square foot steel building, 15,000 square feet of outdoor storage space, and attendant parking improvements. Our services during this project included development of geotechnical design criteria, construction phase consultation, earthwork observation and compaction testing, laboratory testing, SWPPP monitoring, and special inspection services.
The West Marine building is located at the southern end of Westridge Drive in Watsonville, California. The existing structure was constructed in the late 1980’s and consists of a one story and two-story tilt-up concrete structure founded upon a conventional foundation system. The eastern portion of the structure was under a constant state of distress expressed as differential settlement and cracking. PCEI conducted a comprehensive geotechnical investigation to determine the causation of the distress and develop geotechnical mitigation recommendations. After an extensive investigation, it was determined that a combination of consolidation settlement, soil creep and differential bearing conditions were most likely the cause of the building distress. Ultimately, we developed geotechnical design recommendations to underpin the eastern portion of the structure with drilled concrete piers.
The 1013 Pacific Avenue project is located in downtown Santa Cruz. The project is presently comprised of the design and construction of a four-story mixed use building. The new building will occupy a footprint area of approximately 5,100 square feet and will include ground floor retail and 17 residential condominium units. Pacific Crest Engineering has been working on this property since 2012. Our latest 2020 update report included quantitative evaluation of seismically-induced settlement, development of lateral earth pressures and foundation design criteria, development of general earthwork, materials and utility trench recommendations, and evaluation of pertinent seismic and geotechnical hazards.
