Pacific Crest Engineering Inc. performed a geotechnical investigation for the approximately 6,500 square-foot single family residence and associated driveway, barn, and site infrastructure. While the main residence is founded upon a bedrock ridge, the approximately 2,700-foot-long driveway passes over spoils “Talus” from an old quarry operation on the property. The relatively loose and over-steepened talus material presented a particular challenge with respect to the stability of the driveway. We developed design recommendations for a compression plate system to stabilize the subject section of driveway, which was a cost savings when compared to other alternatives. We also provided consultation and observation/testing services during the construction phase of the project.
Pacific Crest Engineering Inc. performed a geotechnical investigation for the approximately 10,000 square-foot single family residence and associated site infrastructure. Given the moderate to steep slope on the north-side to the residence, we recommended that the residence be founded on a pier and gradebeam foundation system. We also provided consultation and observation/testing services during the construction phase of the project.
Pacific Crest Engineering Inc. performed an update to a geotechnical investigation for an approximately 17,000 square-foot single family residence and approximately 1,100 square-foot detached garage. The primary geotechnical considerations for the project included expansive soils, sloping topography and uniform bearing support for the proposed structures. To address these considerations, the structures were founded on pier and gradebeam foundation systems. Furthermore, we recommended that the native expansive soils beneath the concrete slab-on-grade floors be chemically treated to reduce the expansive potential of the soil. We also provided consultation and observation/testing services during the construction phase of the project.
Pacific Crest Engineering Inc. performed a geotechnical investigation for the approximately 5,000 square-foot single family residence and remodel/retrofit of an existing ADU situated on a largely undeveloped 5-acre parcel. The project will also include the construction of an approximately 300-foot-long driveway. Our geotechnical investigation included quantitative liquefaction and slope stability analyses. Given the moderately sloping terrain and relatively loose surficial soils, we recommended that the structures be founded upon pier and gradebeam foundation systems. We also provided design recommendations for subdrains to mitigate the relatively shallow groundwater conditions at the site.
